What is a clicker?
Audience Response Systems (ARS), commonly referred to as “clickers”, allow students and audience members to participate in lectures or presentations by electronically submitting responses using handheld keypads.  These devices interface with a presenter’s content and enable instructors or presenters to gather data and assess learning outcomes and to engage participants, without having to close their onscreen presentation.

University of Utah Clicker Policy
TurningPoint Technology is the recommended clicker vendor for the University of Utah.  University of Utah faculty wishing to utilize clicker technology in their classes or presentations can order TurningPoint clickers at the University Campus Store, along with their regular textbook orders. The Campus Store will notify IMS of the professor’s eligibility for a receiver, per policy parameters (ARS Policy Memo). Professors can pick up their receiver from IMS approximately one week after their order has been placed with the Campus Store. Students will purchase their clickers directly through the Campus Store. Please contact Hollie Fletcher hfletcher@bookstore.utah.edu, Dave Nelson dnelson@bookstore.utah.edu, or Shane Girton sgirton@bookstore.utah.edu for questions about ordering your clickers, or call 801-581-6326. For more policy information, click on the PDF links in the Policy section in the right column.

ARS Information for Instructors
Orders will be placed with TurningPoint Technology based on previous textbook sales history for the course. Please contact the Campus Store if you have questions regarding how many clickers will be ordered for your course. Meeting the recommended adoption due dates for your course material needs (Fall: April 15th, Spring: October 15th, Summer: March 1st) through the Campus Store will help ensure your textbooks and clickers are available for the first day of classes and allow you time to familiarize yourself with this interface technology.

If you would like to check out a clicker set for demonstration or trial use please contact IMS. Clicker sets are available to faculty, staff and graduate students for short term use. For more information click on the IMS link in the right column.

ARS Information for Students
Students can purchase their clickers, along with their textbooks, directly through the Campus Store. Due to the standardization of clickers on campus, many students will be able to use the clicker each semester for all courses utilizing this interface. Buyback for clickers will also be conducted at the Campus Store during semester ending buyback so used clickers will be available to some students the following semester.
